Multi-media filter is a process that uses one or several filter media to pass water with high turbidity through granular or non-granular materials with a certain thickness under a certain pressure, so as to effectively remove suspended impurities and clarify the water. Commonly used filter materials include quartz sand, anthracite, manganese sand, etc., which are mainly used for turbidity removal in water treatment, softening water, pre-treatment of pure water, etc. The turbidity of effluent can reach below 3 degrees.
First, the multi-media filter media
The filter materials of multi-media filter include quartz sand, activated carbon, manganese sand, anthracite, fiber balls, etc. So how to choose the filter materials of multi-media filter, we first analyze the functions of various filter materials so that we can use them together better.
1. Quartz sand filter material is mainly used to purify water by interception and filtration, which mainly removes suspended impurities in water, improves the transparency and turbidity of water, and is conventionally used for river water purification, sewage purification, surface water treatment, etc.
2. Activated carbon mainly adsorbs organic matter and metal ions in water, deodorizes and deodorizes. It is generally used for reclaimed water reuse, tap water and sewage treatment, and it can improve the taste of drinking water.
3. Manganese sand filter materials generally mainly remove iron and manganese ions from water, and are mainly used for groundwater treatment, well water treatment, rust removal of metal pipelines and wastewater with high iron content.
4. Anthracite is a kind of filter material between quartz sand and activated carbon. It has the function of quartz sand filtration and interception and has a certain adsorption power of activated carbon. It is often used for tap water treatment, river water treatment and sewage treatment, but the disadvantage is the high cost of filter material.
5. Fiber ball filter material is often used for large-flow water treatment. Because of its fast flow rate, the flow per unit cross-sectional area is large, and because of its obvious effect on oil treatment, it is generally used for oil removal filtration and large-flow landscape water treatment, river water treatment and sewage treatment.
Second, the application scope of multi-media filter
1. Pretreatment of reverse osmosis, electrodialysis, ion exchanger, ultrafiltration and other systems.
2. Pre-filtration treatment of raw water for power generation, chemical industry, paper making and beverage.
3. River water treatment, because the river water mainly has relatively high sediment content, especially in rainy season, and there are relatively many organic impurities in the water, mainly because the river water dissolves some rotten branches and weeds. Therefore, quartz sand and activated carbon are generally used to adsorb the impurities of sediment and organic matter in water. If there are more impurities in quartz sand and organic matter, it is best to run in series through quartz sand filter and activated carbon filter.
4. Groundwater treatment: the groundwater is mainly rich in iron and manganese. Generally, manganese sand filter material is selected, which has the ability to remove iron and manganese efficiently. Generally, because the hardness of manganese sand is not very high, quartz sand filter material can be added to improve the water passing rate. If there are many impurities such as sediment in the water, it is recommended to add quartz sand to the bottom of manganese sand filter for interception and filtration.
5. Advanced sewage purification treatment, especially textile wastewater, printing and dyeing wastewater, mechanical processing wastewater, paper-making wastewater, medical wastewater and food wastewater, etc. contain organic additives due to their high color and high suspended solids content. Generally, quartz sand filter and activated carbon filter are used, and impurities such as sediment in the effluent are adsorbed by quartz sand interception filter box activated carbon, so as to improve the transparency of the water and remove the odor in the water.
