Extraordinary water pollution accident in Tuojiang River, Sichuan Province
At the end of February and the beginning of March, 2004, the residents on both sides of Tuojiang River found that the river turned yellow and smelly, with white foam in many places and a large number of dead fish floating on the river surface. Then, residents found that tap water turned brown and smelled of ammonia. The No.2 Chemical Fertilizer Plant of Chuanhua Co., Ltd. was responsible for this pollution accident. They discharged a large amount of high-concentration industrial wastewater into Tuojiang River, which caused millions of people along the Yangtze River in Jianyang, Zizhong and Neijiang to be forced to stop drinking water, and 500,000 kilograms of cage fish died. The direct economic loss was about 300 million yuan, and it took five years to restore the destroyed ecology.
Water pollution incident in Chuxiong section of Longchuan River
At the beginning of June 2004, a serious cadmium pollution incident occurred in Longchuan River, Chuxiong City. The total cadmium in Chuxiong Hydrological Station, Zhimin Bridge and Heijing section exceeded 36.4 times. After investigating the sewage outlets along the river, the sewage from sulfuric acid plant, Haiyuan Zinc Industry Company and Diandong Smelter was the main pollution source of cadmium pollution.
Water pollution incident in Puyang, Henan Province
Since October, 2004, water pollution has occurred in the Yellow River water intake of Puyang City, Henan Province for more than four months, threatening the drinking water safety of more than 400,000 residents in the urban area, and forcing Puyang City to use standby groundwater sources. Water pollution incident in Qingyi River
